Home Depot plans multi-million-square-foot distribution centre in Grand Prairie Texas

Home Depot plans to open a multi-million-square-foot center in southern Dallas that will bring about 800 jobs to the area

The center, a build-to-suit project, will be located at 9314 West Jefferson Blvd.

The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday in favour of giving more than $6 million in incentives for The Home Depot (NYSE: HD), which plans to open a multimillion-square-foot center in southern Dallas that will bring about 800 jobs to the area. The proposal passed with an 11-3 vote.

Mayor Pro Tem Casey Thomas, who represents District 3, where the center will be, said in a tweet the project will be Home Depot's largest distribution center in the country.

“This is an opportunity that will be beneficial to many of the residents of the city of Dallas. We are excited about this opportunity,” Thomas said. “We are going to have a very active hiring process. We’re going to work with them on training and make sure that so many people who have not had opportunities have the skills necessary to move out of poverty and be able to break a generational curse. We’re talking over 800 jobs.”

Home Depot will be getting almost $5.3 million in tax abatements from the city over a 10-year period.
