Saddle Creek Names Vice President of Transportation

Saddle Creek Logistics Services announced today that John Erwin has been promoted to vice president, Saddle Creek Transportation. The creation of this position was spurred by the rapid growth of Saddle Creek's transportation division.

Erwin joined Saddle Creek in 2011 as director of operations support/maintenance. Since then, the company's fleet has more than doubled in size.  In his new role, Erwin will be responsible for leading approximately 60 percent of Saddle Creek Transportation's fleet operations, including those based in Lakeland, Fla., Jacksonville, Fla., Atlanta, Valdosta, Ga., Macon, Ga., and Texas.

Saddle Creek's Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project has been a significant growth area for the transportation division.  Erwin was responsible for overseeing this initiative, including construction of an on-site fueling station and integrating the CNG tractors into Saddle Creek's fleet operations.  The eco-friendly fleet has logged more than 32 million miles to date and expanded to provide deliveries in the Southeast and Southwest.

In addition, Erwin has led Saddle Creek's safety and driver recruitment efforts for the past four years.  In 2014, the company hired more than 200 new drivers under his direction while maintaining an outstanding safety record.

Prior to joining Saddle Creek, Erwin worked for a variety of transportation and logistics companies including FedEx/Watkins Motor Lines and Ryder Integrated Logistics.  In the course of his 25-year career in transportation, he has held a variety of positions in operations, engineering, and leadership.

"John has played a vital role in the growth of our tranportation division," said Mike DelBovo, president, Saddle Creek Transportation.  "His commitment to building a quality fleet is unparalleled, and his leadership has been instrumental to the success of our CNG initiative and increased industry awareness of this sustainable fuel source.  We look forward to leveraging his extensive expertise in this new, elevated role as we continue to strengthen our transportation services in support of our customers."
