An Invitation to Participate in a Supply Chain Sustainability Study and Awards Program

"The best leaders almost without exception and at every level, are master users of stories and symbols." - Tom Peters

It's that time of year again - when LQ Magazine invites third-party providers (3PLs) and the innovative supply chain professionals that they work with - to join the winners' circle and participate in LQ’s 3PL Sustainability Study and Awards Program (2013) – by completing an online application to document their case study, at www.LQ3PLstudy.com.

LQ’s third annual 3PL Sustainability and Study Program builds upon LQ Magazine’s 19-year tradition of rendering compelling case studies to inspire the peers, stakeholders and clients of leading 3PLs from across the United States and Canada.

This annual awards program is specifically designed to recognize third-party logistics providers that work closely with their customers to demonstrate leadership and innovation in sustainable supply chain practices.

Last year Ryder System, Inc., a leader in supply chain, warehousing and transportation management solutions, and its customer, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, a leading grocery retailer, received the prestigious LQ 2012 Third Party Logistics (3PL) Sustainability Award.

The value of LQ’s 3PL Program was clearly evidenced in 2012 by the leadership of the Best LQ 3PL Performers in Sustainability presentations at the Toronto Board of Trade’s Country Club and articles, as well as the 2012 winner’s story, featured in LQ Magazine, Marketwatch (the Wall Street Journal), the Globe and Mail newspaper, Reuters, and other media organizations. Background:

LQ Magazine has a distinctive place in the market given its unique mix of Canadian and American readers - and an editorial environment reflects the fact that the United States and Canada are each other’s greatest trading partners – and the largest trading partners in the world, with an estimated $680 billion in goods and services changing hands each year between our nations. Some $1.6 billion worth of goods and services cross the Canada-U.S. border daily.

The high level of integration between the U.S. and Canadian economies is also reflected by the fact we are each other’s largest export markets. In fact, Canada is the number one foreign market for goods exports for 34 of the 50 states. And Canadians and Americans continue to share the closest energy relationship in the world.

LQ’s Symposiums reflect this U.S.-Canadian dynamic – and represent an extension of LQ’s 19-year tradition of offering “ideas for leadership in logistics and transportation”.

For the past two years LQ’s Sustainability Symposiums, which provide a forum for peer-to-peer learning and inquiry, have celebrated innovation in the supply chain field – with LQ’s Best 3PL Performer in Sustainability Winner, chosen from four finalists at LQ’s Summer Symposiums.

Ryder and Fresh & Easy were recognized for implementing innovative, sustainable practices that have resulted in improved service, environmental performance, and cost effectiveness in Fresh & Easy’s supply chain operations.

Fresh & Easy currently operates 199 grocery stores in California, Arizona and Nevada and relies on a total fleet of 74 vehicles managed by Ryder to support grocery and perishable store deliveries from its Riverside, California distribution center. Services provided by Ryder include Temperature Controlled Dedicated Contract Carriage (DCC), Inbound Freight Management, and Reverse Logistics.

The LQ 3PL Sustainability Award Evaluation Committee, comprised of leading executives and academics from the U.S. and Canada, recognized Ryder System, Inc., and Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, as the Best 2012 3PL Performer in Sustainability Winner, representing the finest of the four “Best 3PL Performers in Sustainability” finalists following the 3PL Finalist Firm Presentations on July 17th 2012 at LQ’s Symposium in Toronto, Canada. In addition to collaboration, LQ’s Evaluation Committee considered each 3PL finalist’s strategic vision in this area, as well as their performance in economic, environmental and societal areas of sustainability.

The following four 2012 finalists, LQ’s Top 3PL Performers in Sustainability, were selected by Dr. Closs and Dr. Goldsby: C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., GENCO ATC, Ryder Integrated Logistics, UPS.
