eft’s 3PL Selection and Contracting Report

With commoditization being a major topic for 3PLs, and the nature of the 3PL-customer relationship forming an integral part of their strategy, eft recently conducted some research into the area.

The 2015 3PL selection and contracting report represents a thorough analysis of the selection and contracting process of contract logistics from perspective of both logistics service providers and their customers – namely manufacturers and retailers. The report also asks some critical questions on future technology, and the impact this is going to have on the relationship between LSPs and their customers.

“Logistics is in the midst of some very important changes. While commoditization is becoming more and more of a reality, eCommerce is booming and certain technologies are on the cusp of changing the way things are transported. This report tracks these changes and outlines how they’re set to change the 3PL-customer relationship. The report really sets the scene for the discussion we have on a yearly basis in Chicago at the 3PL Summit, taking place June 16-18 in 2015.” Haley Garner, Event Director.

Key findings include:

  • 4% increase in customer dissatisfaction
  • 32% of manufacturer/retailer respondents expect their 3PL to have at least some expertise/knowledge of augmented reality
  • 30% of manufacturer/retailers expect 3PLs to have at least some expertise/knowledge on drone delivery
