DHL Global Forwarding launches new capacity management program

DHL Global Forwarding (DGF), the air and ocean freight service unit of logistics company Deutsche Post DHL, has launched a freight capacity management program in view of the increasing trade volumes, especially in the Asia Pacific market.

The initiative comes as response to the increased freight rates, which is the result of freight capacity shortage along the busiest trade routes.

DHL Global Forwarding CEO Roger Crook said: "As global trade picks up - fueled by spiking demands in technology - DHL is seeing customer volumes increase on many trade lanes, especially in Asia Pacific.

"In this scenario, where capacity is tightening and demand is rising, upward pressure on prices is virtually unavoidable.

"DHL's capacity program is targeted to meet customers' crucial shipping needs across all industry sectors against the backdrop of rising demand."

IHS reports that the global export volume has gone up to 4.4% in Q3 of 2014 as compared to last year's data.

Air freight in the Asia Pacific region has shown the most notable trade improvement as against other regions. The Asia Pacific region registered 7.1% increase in Freight-Tonne-Kilometer (FTK) in July 2014 compared to 2013.

Customer demands for freight have been on the rise in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region as well.

DGH CEO EMEA Rajeev Singh-Molares said: "In this changing market situation, where rising volumes encounter capacity shortfalls and increasing carrier rates, we are well-positioned to support our customers' business success while continuing to deliver high-quality service."
