Logistics CIOs on Tech Innovation vs. Core Business Activity as a Priority

eft have released their latest research report into the logistics IT space, with the launch of The Transport and Logistics CIO Report, created in collaboration with HP.

HP and eft surveyed over 200 transport and logistics IT executives, manufacturers and solution providers in the industry to provide insight into future IT investment trends, the strategic role of the CIO and the level of technological innovation in the industry.

The complimentary report can be downloaded here.

The report also examines the prevalence and uses of big data in the logistics space, how sensor and mobility technologies are affecting the industry and the different ways in which the cloud is being used – in fact, whether it’s being used at all.

Some key findings include:

  • Key areas of IT investment for 2014  - WMS and business applications’ modification and performance were the most popular areas
  • The use of big data technologies in the logistics industry – 61% are currently using or investigating big data
  • Benefit found in outsourcing vs. building solutions in-house - of the 24 areas surveyed, only 6 areas were perceived to have more benefit when built in-house

The results of this report will form the foundation of discussion at the Logistics CIO Forum, taking place in Dallas this March 4-5. Senior IT or operations executives working at a transport or logistics company are eligible to attend the event with a complimentary pass.
