UK hauliers have been hit by a nationwide crime wave of thieves stealing batteries, warns the Road Haulage Association
According to RHA security manager Chrys Rampley, thieves are cutting through the security fences at transport depots to steal batteries, which are reported to have a current market value of around £350 per tonne
Ms Rampley says there have been reports of thefts from around the country, and the RHA urges everyone working in the transport industry to be extra vigilant and to report any theft or attempted theft
"We are working with the police - both individual forces and the national co-ordinating body, Truckpol - to combat the problem," says Ms Rampley
The RHA takes a leading role in combating crime against the haulage industry Its security committee brings together transport operators, insurers and police representatives, highlighting trends and promoting best practice in countering criminal activity
