In the first three months of this year, Lufthansa Cargo significantly improved its transport performance, with cargo volumes almost reaching the 2008 level
Following the dramatic slide in cargo volumes in the crisis year 2009, Lufthansa Cargo transported approximately 390,000 tonnes of airfreight and mail between January and March 2010
This represents a year-on-year increase of 193%
The highest growth rates were achieved in the Americas traffic region, which reported 278% growth, and Asia-Pacific with 217% growth
The improved performance is attributed to targeted measures to adjust capacity in response to market demand, along with a 222% increase in sales
"The positive trend at year-end 2009 has continued in the first quarter of this year," said Lufthansa Cargo CEO & chairman Carsten Spohr, adding that America and Asia continue to be the main engines of growth, with demand both to and from Europe remaining strong
