American Airlines Cargo opens new terminal at JFK

After 45 years in its previous facility, American Airlines Cargo has opened its newly relocated cargo terminal at John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York

The facility offers the latest in streamlined handling capability with more than 135,000 sqft of warehouse space and 24 dock doors

The facility's high-speed, computerised, Elevated Transfer Vehicle (ETV) handling system includes two 20-foot ETVs with a storage capacity equivalent to 385 upper-deck aircraft positions The handling system features six dock doors for processing containerised cargo, allowing it to bypass the regular freight-handling activities of the terminal

The handling system can accommodate any type of aircraft unit currently in use and moves units at a rate of 60 feet per minute

Other features of the facility include three coolers for perishable products, an environmental room, and a live-animal handling area
