2012 marks the end of ‘dirty’ trucks at the Port of Los Angeles

January 1, 2012 marked the final milestone of the Clean Truck Program (CTP) at the Port of Los Angeles.

From now on, every local short-haul or drayage truck calling at the Port will have to meet strict clean air and safety standards. The three year program has seen the Port reduce the level of harmful emissions released from trucks serving the San Pedro Bay Ports by 89%.

"The Port of Los Angeles, along with our industry partners, has made the business of moving cargo cleaner," said Port Executive Director Geraldine Knatz. "The results speak for themselves, and we couldn't be more proud of reaching this milestone."

As a result of the progressive ban adopted in 2006 and enacted in 2008, 1,473 of the drayage fleet of 11,772 trucks serving the Port of Los Angeles were retired from port service on January 1. The date marked the final leg of a phased-in program to replace all dirty heavy-duty drayage trucks serving the Port with rigs whose engines meet or exceed 2007 standards.

Seiko continued to produce innovative, quality watches, fallowing with the winnable wristwatch, quartz clocks, transistorized table clocks, and the world's first quartz chronometers which were used in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The world's first wall clock followed in 1968.
In 1992 Seiko continued to be the technical leader in watches and produced the kinetic watch - no batteries! This was followed by the Seiko Thermo in 1998, the first watch running completely on body heat; this was followed by the world's first micro motor in the same year.
