Reducing Supply Chain & Logistics Costs through Analytics – Jabil and Transplace Reveal All

In a recent webinar Tom Sanderson, CEO at Transplace and Fred Hartung, VP of SC Solutions and Global Logistics at Jabil shared their thoughts on the importance of data and analytics to their organizations’ success and bottom line.

As the interpretation of smart and intelligent data becomes key to logistics and supply chain interconnectivity and productivity, it has become clear that those who implement these increasingly advanced analytics capabilities will enjoy a significant competitive advantage.

These realized benefits, and also challenges, dominated the discussion in a recent webinar on data as the biggest weapon in supply chain and logistics, featuring Tom Sanderson, CEO at Transplace and Fred Hartung, VP of SC Solutions and Global Logistics at Jabil.

Tom explained his thoughts on the high volume of data by saying “It’s very important to think about internal and external data. By just analysing our own data we are really missing a big part of the overall picture. Unstructured data that may come from chat or different social media…also has a lot of potential value.”

During the webinar Tom and Fred explored a number of key topics including:

  • Areas in which analytics tools are reducing costs and which types of analytics are proving the most valuable from both a cost and efficiency perspective
  • The key partners who helped put these supply chain and logistics analytics platforms in place
  • Questions around data governance and the willingness of partners to share data

In explaining the impact of analytics on operations Fred commented; “We are just starting to scratch the surface of cognitive analytics, where algorithms get better and smarter in predictive outcomes in ways that humans can’t…this is where you can raise the level of your organization”.
