New eft Global Report Explores Top 3 Supply Chain Challenges for Retailers and Manufacturers

A recently released global supply chain report explores some of the key forces impacting supply chain today, including technology advancements, changing market conditions and an evolving industry.

Research house eft have just released their 2016 Global Chief Supply Chain Officer Report.  With responses collated from over 300 senior supply chain executives, the findings reveal the most important challenges and opportunities facing the industry, from technology advancements to increasing customer demand.

There is no question that the supply chain is changing rapidly and one of the most significant drivers of supply chain change has been the empowerment of the consumer. Ranging from product personalization to purchasing decisions based on available inventory, the consumer is more influential than ever on the supply chain. This is not only affecting retailers, but is impacting every layer of the supply chain. For example, as demand fluctuates, suppliers have to cope with retailer requirements.

However, customer emphasis is just one of the drivers in strategic supply chain decision-making.  With this in mind the report goes on to:

• Discuss what 65% of shippers think are the biggest drivers for cross-border trade outside of consumer demand
• Examine Mexico operations: if labor costs and technology short-falls barely registered as challenges, what were the top 3?
• Analyze S&OP maturity rates of retailers and manufacturers

Haley Garner, Head of Research and Content at eft “The supply chain is caught in the midst of some major change. This is best summarized in the report through asking manufacturers and retailers to describe the supply chain of 2026. The answer was automation of warehouses, visibility and prescriptive analytics. These are all areas set to define the next several years of supply chain”.

These themes and more will be discussed in detail at eft’s 14th Annual 3PL Summit & Chief Supply Chain Officer Forum, taking place in Chicago on June 20-22.  For more information on the event, including the agenda, delegate list and networking opportunities please visit http://www.3plsummit.com or contact the event directors Sarah Reynolds and Sophie Farrow on the details below.  Discounted tickets are available for LSPs and solution providers and there are complimentary passes for senior supply chain executives working at a manufacturer or retailer.
