Lufthansa Cargo and Austrian Airlines set up JV in Vienna

May 27, 2010

Lufthansa Cargo and Austrian Airlines have formed a joint company, Austrian Lufthansa Cargo, which will be headquartered in Vienna.

The news follows the announcement in February that Lufthansa Cargo and Austrian Cargo would begin cooperating closely in July this year.

The new company, which will be 74% owned by Lufthansa Cargo and 26% by Austrian Airlines, will be responsible for marketing the entire freight capacity of aircraft operated by both airlines in the Austrian market.

All freight handling activities in Austria and the expansion of Vienna airport into a further hub for Lufthansa Cargo will be managed by Austrian Lufthansa Cargo.

The new company will be managed by Franz Zöchbauer and Hasso Schmidt.

Zöchbauer, former head of Austrian Airlines' Cargo division, will be responsible, among other things, for expanding the Vienna hub.

Schmidt will assume responsibility for sales for Austrian Lufthansa Cargo, whilst retaining his existing remit as Lufthansa Cargo's director for Austria, Eastern & Southeastern Europe, Turkey & Israel.
