Katrineholms Logistikcentrum closes major deal with Van Dieren

Dutch logistics company Van Dieren Maritime has decided to establish a presence in Katrineholm, and will build a hub for its mid/north Swedish operations at Katrineholm Logistics Centre.

Van Dieren Maritime has signed an agreement with Katrineholm Rail Point, and from January 2010 will ship goods via its own daily train shuttle between Germany and Katrineholm Logistics Centre.

The service bridges the distance between Katrineholm (SE) and Herne (Ruhr - Germany) in nineteen hours.  A daily departure in both directions will meet shippers' demand in both business regions.

Operated by Swedish railway company Hector Rail, the specially equipped locomotives can travel all the way to Herne and back again, with no delays for changing locomotives anywhere along the route.

The kombi train will carry Huckepack (mega) trailers as well as 45 ft (curtain-sided) containers.

The in-house trucking operation will be responsible for all pre- and on-carriage of the loading units.

Van Dieren Sweden is also signing an agreement to buy a prepared 25,000 m2 site in the logistics area from Katrineholm Local Authority, with the intention of building a major cross-dock and warehousing facility for both import and export goods. The facility will allow Van Dieren to handle both full and part loads into and out of Sweden via intermodal transport.
