Global Logistics Report Uncovers Innovation Contradictions in the 3PL and Supply Chain Industry

eft’s 2016 Global Logistics Report sponsored by JDA Software explores the next generation of logistics and supply chain partnerships and innovation. Using the responses of over 500 global senior supply chain and logistics executives, it forms a benchmark for future strategy.

eft has surveyed senior logistics and supply chain executives on their current and future concerns and priorities in order to gain insight into the state of the current logistics market. The resulting report explores the LSP-shipper relationship, including routes to innovation for LSPs, regional and vertical growth areas as well as customer expectations. It’s a revealing insight into the challenges logistics providers face in the coming year.

Of this year’s results, eft’s Head of Content and Research, Haley Garner says, “The 2016 global report has revealed some interesting trends with regards to the current state of logistics. While many different areas of growth stood out - eCommerce especially - the thing that struck me most was the conundrum 3PLs are facing, especially given the projected stagnation of growth in 2016.”

He continues, “The report has uncovered that the majority of LSPs intend to use innovation to gain new business over the next 18 months, yet these same LSPs self-identify on the whole as late-adopters of innovative technologies. Shipper customers also think they come up short when it comes to innovation. What are logistics providers doing to innovate in 2016?”

As well as innovation, the report also explores:

  • Emerging Technologies: Over 50% think that, of new technologies emerging,  predictive analytics will have the biggest impact on supply chain this decade (2010-2020)
  • Areas of Growth: Over one third of LSPs are seeing the most growth in the eCommerce space
  • Strategic vs. Short-Term Relationships: Over 40% of shippers describe their LSP as a strategic partner
  • Essential LSP Services: The top 3 services shippers are demanding from their LSPs now and in the future

The many positive trends documented in this new report from EFT show that customers are looking to gain more value from their LSPs and, in fact, want to engage with their LSPs more strategically than before. This report aims to provide you with the trends, bench-marking and shipper insight required for industry stakeholders to effectively navigate the logistics industry in 2016.”

Todd Johnson at JDA Software, alongside CEOs from ArcBest, C.H. Robinson and XPO Logistics and more, will explore how to achieve growth through innovation at this year’s 3PL Summit and CSCO Forum in Chicago on June 20-22.
