The Rhenus Group is constructing its own bonded warehouse near the Russia border in order to enhance the customs services provided to customers
The idea of moving the customs offices to the border regions is designed to simplify customs clearance At the same time, overland transportation routes will be changed in order to relieve the major cities of traffic
The Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation announced its new customs policy in summer 2009 The subsidiary Revival Express established new branches to reflect the realignment of Russian customs policy, and now organises regular customs clearance procedures near the borders
A start has also been made on test procedures in Smolensk, whereby customers can make online declarations without being physically present The company is now planning to construct its own bonded warehouse in the Smolensk region
Rhenus has already secured the land for its first bonded warehouse and work is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year The first stage involves the building of a bonded warehouse for temporary storage Thereafter, the plan is to expand the logistics complex to an area measuring 30,000 m2, 25,000 m2 of which will be used as a transfer warehouse
Rhenus intends to handle all the normal commercial goods at its own facilities during the first half of 2011, and will later provide intermediate storage for all types of items except hazardous goods
The bonded warehouse will match European standards and will, for instance have its own access control system and video monitoring The centre will also provide all kinds of customs services and space for groupage freight to be transhipped
Rhenus Revival has set up its own companies and works with trusted partners in all the CIS countries, Baltic States and Central Asia to offer domestic and international transportation, consolidation and distribution across Europe, warehouse logistics, supply chain management and special transportation tasks
