Schenker (Asia Pacific) has officially opened its first ever IT Shared Services Centre (SSC) at the Jiangsu Software Park in Nanjing
The SSC occupies more than 15,000 sqft and will primarily pool IT functions such as application development, maintenance, application operations, information and communication technology infrastructure and help desk, for the DB Schenker Asia Pacific organisation and several countries in the region
The €15 million project investment for the SSC is expected to yield a project payback in less than three years through greater cost efficiencies and economies of scale
Member of the Board of Management and CIO for Schenker, Peter Schumann said: "In order to compete in the long run, companies need to constantly assess and adjust their IT strategy and thus ensure meaningful investments in technology, infrastructure and process improvements"
He added that this SSC has the potential to become a pilot for global use to deliver more efficient and standardised processes based on global standards
