Same-Day Delivery Column; Advances in Supply Chain Tech; Logistics Industry Wakes Up to Disruptive Tech Fallout

I was at the 3PL Summit and CSCO Forum in Chicago last week with over 600 of you, which once again was a great event attended by a real who’s who of the industry. More analysis of the sessions will be released in the coming weeks. It was good to see that a lot of the buzz was surrounding disruptive technologies such as 3D printing, Driverless Trucks, M2M/Internet of Things and e-commerce Delivery. I think the last 12 months has seen the logistics industry finally wake up to a lot of potential change in its environment. Last year when I was on stage talking about 3D printing for example, the audience response was very muted; this year there was not necessarily excitement, but definitely much interest and also apprehension about the future with these disruptive technologies…however the plausible belief in drone delivery is a long way from being widespread……maybe next year ;0)
